There is a huge emphasis from the media,
government departments and environmental agencies to change
people’s diets and get them to eat healthily.
This
has lead to an increased interest in producing home grown
vegetables and fruit, especially organically grown produce.
This trend is very beneficial to people’s health.
For many years allotments have been the
focal point of communities in the UK. A survey of some of
our plot holders undertaken in 2007showed that the benefits
included:
• Fresh air
• Open space
• Exercise and enjoyable leisure activity
• Pleasure in eating produce that they have grown themselves
• Organic vegetables and fruit
• Community spirit and friendships
• Watching the wildlife
There are over 50 allotment sites in the
London Borough of Ealing. Two of these are owned and operated
by us. These are at Haslemere
and Northfield Avenues and
both are located in West Ealing. Haslemere has 70 plots and
Northfield has 90 plots.
The demand for allotments has risen. Currently,
there is a 2-3 year waiting list but we are hoping to reduce
the waiting time by introducing half plots each time that
a plot becomes empty.
If you are an existing plot holder who is
finding it difficult to maintain a full plot and you would
like to downsize to a half plot please contact
your Allotment Manager or the Trust Office.
