Who may apply for a grant
The EBCC can only accept applications from organisations, not individuals. Organisations need not be charities themselves but may apply for a grant on behalf of an individual or for a grant that they themselves will use or distribute to individuals. The basis on which this distribution will be done must form part of the application.
EBCC is a local charity. It will only consider grants where the beneficiary or beneficiaries are located in Brentford and Ealing. EBCC grants will only be awarded to W5, W13 and TW8 postcode areas.
What are grants given for?
The EBCC policy is to give grants in three specific categories within Brentford and Ealing. These are: -
- Youth and Community – Projects with young people or people who are vulnerable or disadvantaged
- Care of the Sick and Elderly – Projects that
- Benefit those (or their carers) who suffer from long-term sickness and disability
- Assist people (or their carers) to get their full entitlement to benefit
- Improve the quality of life for the vulnerable, sick and elderly
- Faith Based Organisations – Support for faith based organisations that carry out work within the community. This work will need to be focused on the community at large. We welcome schemes that are led by combinations of different faiths.
The EBCC will consider:
- Funding all the reasonable overhead costs of an application.
- Giving grants for more than one year where organisations are able to demonstrate that they have monitored and evaluated their work, have learned lessons and refined their approach, and have achieved their stated results.
The EBCC defines small organisations as those with an annual income of less than £100,000 a year and with free reserves of less than 6 months income.
What are grants not given for?
The EBCC will not normally give grants for the purchase of transport, building work or the creation of a structure or facility requiring long-term maintenance. We will not normally fund either materials or activities that solely promote any specific faith. We do not wish to give grants for activities for which government or local councils have a statutory responsibility. Our aim is to provide additional funds, not a substitute.
How much grant funding will EBCC give?
Most grants will be in the range of £250 to £10,000. EBCC will award only very few (about 10) grants of between £10,000 and £40,000 a year. However, at this level of award the EBCC will expect much more in terms of clearly defined objectives and results and a convincing account of how they will be monitored and evaluated.
The trustees are particularly keen to support organisations that:
- Present well thought out ideas and demonstrate their capacity to achieve them
- Can use a grant to lever in extra money or match funding
- Demonstrate efficiency and effectiveness
- Reach the neediest people
How are grants monitored?
The Trustees will ask for evidence that the grant has been spent for the purpose for which it was given. The form this will take will be decided on an individual basis and stated as part of the offer of a grant.
